Safety study testimonials
Before the commercial launch of The AstaFactor®, Mera Pharmaceuticals conducted a human clinical safety study to determine safe dosage of daily intake of astaxanthin products manufactured with Mera Pharmaceuticals’ proprietary technology. After completion of this safety study, scientists at Mera Pharmaceuticals, Inc., conducted a survey among the participants to collect their observations and comments regarding the study. There were many particularly encouraging comments and testimonials.
Below is a selection of some of those positive observations from the volunteers.
Jane, age 39, does aerobic training and weight training twice a week: 2

In addition to comments on how they felt during the study, Mera Pharmaceuticals received encouraging positive feedback from most volunteers on the conditions of the safety study. All respondents to the post-study inquiry replied that they were satisfied with the organization of the study, and all but one felt they had been well informed on the conditions and purpose of the study. Some of the comments that came back were: "Outstanding amount of information", "I think you did a very good job", "I can't think of anything that could have been done better"
In terms of adverse effects, several participants observed reddened stools, which did not always last throughout the study. This is a benign condition: reddening of the stool represents passage of some of the astaxanthin pigment (red in color) through the digestive tract in normal stool. Because astaxanthin has strong pigmenting concentrations, even very minute concentrations can cause this discoloration. No other significant adverse effects were identified, even in the intervention group taking nearly 4 times the recommended dose of astaxanthin (19 mg/day).
1 Before finalizing the astaxanthin dose to be used in The AstaFactor®, Mera Pharmaceuticals conducted a clinical study to determine safety levels of astaxanthin and algal biomass produced with Mera Pharmaceuticals technology. Participants received doses of 4 or 19 mg astaxanthin per day for 29 days. After the study was completed, a large number of the volunteers who participated in the study provided Mera Pharmaceuticals with additional personal observations and comments on their experiences while taking astaxanthin during the study. In the above selection, several comments support previous findings with astaxanthin in healthy human volunteers. Mera Pharmaceuticals will further investigate some of these potential benefits of astaxanthin relating to health and physical activity.
Individuals made these observations from a small population sample in a study that had been designed to determine safety of astaxanthin, not its efficacy. Furthermore, these individual statements may not completely represent the opinions of the authors, nor should they be considered necessarily representative of the whole population sample. Mera Pharmaceuticals intends to conduct further research to confirm the benefits of astaxanthin suggested by this study. Mera Pharmaceuticals welcomes such testimonials, which provide information from patients and consumers on the effects observed while taking astaxanthin. Such comments may help form the basis for future research into astaxanthin and human health.
